Nutritional Counseling
Nutritional counselling is a two-way interaction through which a patient and the member of the nutritional team interpret the results of a nutritional assessment, identify patient's nutritional problems, needs and goals, discuss ways to meet these goals, and agree on future steps and the frequency of monitoring. Nutrition counseling provides personalized guidance to individuals who are at nutritional risk because of their health or nutritional history, dietary intake, chronic illness, or medication use.
Health coaching is a partnership in which clients are supported in clarifying their health goals and breaking them down into a timeline of concrete, attainable steps. By asking a series of questions, the coach helps the client isolate their values and priorities, harness their resources, recognize the obstacles they are likely to encounter in making health behavior changes, and come up with a realistic plan for building confidence and making progress. The coach provides education and recommendations when necessary, but allows the client to lead the process as much as possible so that they are acting of their own initiative. The coach also acts as the client’s accountability partner, and provides objective insight and encouragement in the event of setbacks.
